Your vinyl shutters now look worn and faded after years fighting off the elements. They are in desperate need of a facelift so you are contemplating the best method to get a fresh, new look. You could hire a professional painting contractor to get the look you want. However, the task is not as hard as you may think. With the right tools, a bit of time and some valuable know how, this can be a project you can accomplish on your own.
Materials Needed:
- Paint (spray can)
- Screwdriver
- Styrofoam cup
- Soap
- Sponge
- Scrub brush
- Safety goggles
- Gloves
- Breathing mask
- Sawhorses
Step 1 – Preparation
Prepare the area where you will work, making sure to provide enough ventilation when spray painting. You should wear a breathing mask, protective safety goggles and gloves when conducting your vinyl shutter facelift. You do not want to run the risk of inhaling any toxic paint spray or fumes. Make sure the area is clear and that any fixtures in the vicinity are removed or covered to protect anything from errant paint spray.
Also, select a shady spot to help accelerate the curing of the paint.
Step 2 – Select the Paint
Make sure to select a type of paint that is suitable for exterior purposes that will adequately protect your vinyl shutters as well as color theme.
